THE PROBLEM

  • Renewable electricity is variable; electrolysis has strict operating limits.
  • Poor coordination can lead to stop–start operation, unnecessary ramping, equipment stress and lower efficiency.
  • Hydrogen storage, compression and process safety add further constraints that must be coordinated.

THE SOLUTION

  • A hybrid system combining geothermal energy, solar PV and biomass.

  • Battery storage acts as a fast buffer and stabilizes the DC bus.

  • An EMS/MPC optimization layer coordinates energy, hydrogen production, storage and demand.

  • Local control loops and an independent safety layer preserve fast stability and fail-safe operation.

THE TECHNOLOGY DIFFERENTIATOR

  • Hierarchical control: primary → secondary → tertiary levels.
  • Fast PI/PI loops stabilize DC voltage and converter currents.
  • Process PID loops manage temperature, pressure and flows.
  • MPC/EMS optimizes on a minutes-to-hours horizon using forecasts, constraints and operating objectives.
  • Safety systems (SIS/ESD, H₂ detection, ventilation, ATEX/interlocks) have priority over optimization.
